Subject: Backlash Compensation Units?
Can someone tell me what units to use in the KMotion backlash compensation "amount" window? I can't find the information in the manual.

Right now the amount is 116.323, and the rate is 250 (z axis). I can't recall where these numbers came from. I'm using a dial indicator to calibrate the axis. It does a fine job of repeating 0.500" excursions, but I have 10 thousandths of backlash I want to get rid of.

Hi toolhoarder,

The Backlash Amount is specified in steps or counts.  See:

http://dynomotion.com/Help/Cmd.htm#BacklashAmount

So multiply your 0.010 inches by the number of counts/inch for your system.

If you are on a KMotion Screen and want to find information about a parameter - click "Help" and then click on the parameter.

Because backlash should normally be a tiny amount it usually isn't necessary to specify it to 6 digits of precision.

At a rate of only 250 counts/sec would take ~ 1/2 second to take out the backlash.  Normally about 1/10th of that amount of time should be enough.

HTH

I can't even guess how I got a six-digit backlash number. Thanks for the help with the manual. Apart from a Pascal course I took in 1992, I have no programming training, so I did not understand the backlash page.
